We went to Wasaga Beach!

The tans will fade but the memories will last forever...

Wasaga beach is the world's longest freshwater beach. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, Wasaga has a population of about 20,000 people. It is 40 km from Barrie, ON, and it is a huge attraction in the summer. The beach is separated into 6 areas. Area One is considered the main drag. The further away from area one the less populated it is. We stayed at area 6 in a little cottage on the beach, rented from AirBnB. Wasaga, is also a stones throw away from Collingwood and Blue Mountain, which are two very unique and amazing places to see.

Myself, my boyfriend, our dog, and our couple friend all went to Wasaga beach for a little getaway. We decided on this location because my boyfriend, used to go there with his family practically every summer. He suggested we go there because of all the great memories he had growing up. It did not disappoint.
We rented a cottage through Airbnb with the cottage brothers. We stayed in area 6 of the beach, which was amazing. I really enjoyed being able to go to the busier part of the beach when we wanted to, and then being able to head to our area, where we basically had the beach to ourselves.
The drive there from Ottawa, took about 5 to 5 1/2 hours. We took highway 7 there, which has a lot of twists and turns. We got stuck behind a trailer a few times, but other than that it was smooth sailing there.
While in Wasaga we did many things! We did the mini golfing at Wasaga 500, shout out to the nice worker who even allowed our dog to come in the mini putt area. We walked around the board walk, and shopped at a locally owned souvenir shop called Pedros. We got sunburnt, ate marshmallows over the fire, and drank way too much, but we also had the time of our lives.

Although we tried not to eat out much we of course had to try some of the local places. We ate ice cream at Lorna Dune's ice cream and frozen yogurt, not to be confused with Lorna Doon's cafe. While I can't ice cream (damn lactose) I had their blue raspberry slushie. Which was amazing!! I haven't found a super amazing blue raspberry slushie since I moved away from up north. It's been a long 4 years of searching but I finally found a slush that compares to the ones up north. My boyfriend and friends got different types of ice cream and frozen yogurt from their many many varieties. I think this place is great because although it's an ice cream place I was able to find something I could enjoy and not regret later.
My boyfriend and I also got to try the classic poutine at a place called Honey Monster on the boardwalk. Just like real true Canadians we always love trying a poutine every new place we go. Honey monster wasn't actually our first place to go, we originally were trying to go to a placed called Suzie Q's but they were closed when we arrived. So we decided to go next door to them, which was The Honey Monster. I don't know if Suzie Q's poutine is any good, but I must say that I am so glad they were closed and we got to experience the miracle that is The Honey Monster classic poutine. Their fries were a perfectly golden and crispy, they used cheese curds which in my opinion is the only way to have poutine and their gravy was absolutely amazing. While my boyfriend was driving us back to the cottage, I was literally feeding him the poutine, because it was that good. My only regret is that we didn't go back for more. Which is okay because that just means we will need another trip to Wasaga Beach for the good slushies and amazing poutines
Now while Wasaga is where we spent the majority of our time, we also took a small day trip to Collingwood/Blue Mountain. Collingwood is a small town close to Wasaga, it has a unique look with beautiful art work on the sides of their buildings. It very much has a small town feel like Wasaga, but less of the relaxed beachy atmosphere.

Blue Mountain is a resort up in the mountains perfect for skiing in the winter time. But when the snow melts and the skis are put away, it turns into an incredible go to spot for down hill mountain biking. It is also the place for zip lining, rock climbing and other fun outdoor activities. Unfortunately for us, while we were there they were still getting most of their attractions ready for the summer season. But we were still able to take our car up the mountain, and look out at some life changing views.

All in all we had an absolutely perfect vacation, how I wish I was writing this blog post on the beach with my toes in the sand and a drink in my hand. But of course reality always has to call you back. If you are looking for a little piece of paradise in Canada, Wasaga beach is the place to be.
