I hope everyone is having a great start to their 2021. I for one have filled my January with love, family time and reading. Considering my city is currently in lockdown and I am still on Maternity leave staying at home is a must. Aside from the nice walks with my dog and building snowmen with my little family, there isn't much to do but stay inside and devote my time to books.
Alot of my books I've read I've gone back and forth between audiobooks and either ebook or physical copy. This makes it so much easier for me since I'm taking care of baby all day while my boyfriend is working (essential worker).
I wanted to write this post to give you all a quick look at what I've been reading this month and the books I'm looking forward to picking up next month.
To start off I read the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L Armentrout. This is such a wonderful series that consists of 3 books and 1 novella. The first book is White Hot Kiss, it follows a girl Layla, who is half demon and half warden, as she tried to go through her regular life. Which is hard to do for a teenager when her kiss also takes souls (cue demon side). Her world is turned upside down when she teams up with the crowned prince of hell,Roth. She is forced to choose between him and Zayne her life long best friend and big time crush. This series is packed with action, but also a classic love triangle that leaves you wanting more at the end of each chapter. I was so glad it was my first pick of 2021. Having only read two other JLA books before this I didn't have much to go off expectations wise but this series exceeds all expectations and more. Highly recommend! I will be doing a separate and more detailed review of this series soon.
The next series I read is another Jennifer L Armentrout series (warning: I've been reading ALOT of JLA), the Harbinger series is so far 2 books with the newest one coming out in May. The first is called Storm and Fury. This follows, Trinity a girl who lives with and raised by Wardens since she was eight. She stays with them on their base and isn't allowed to leave or do much of anything until wardens from another district show up and flip her whole life upside down. This is the spring off series to the Dark Elements and is just as amazing. JLA knows how to capture hearts and proves that she is the queen of romantic forbidden fantasy novels. Her writing and character development in this series is wonderful and I am so excited to see what comes next for Trinity and her friends.
Series number 3 that I read this month was the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout (I promise they aren't all JLA). This series is 5 books and 2 novellas long. This follows new girl, Katy, as she deals with moving away from Florida to a very small town in West Virginia. Here she meets Dee and her twin brother Daemon Black. Throughout getting to know the twins she learns more about them then she thought, especially that they were not exactly human. JLA does it again for me, traps me into this series unable to put it down or pause the audiobook. The Lux series is quite amazing and continues with a spin off series called Origin which I plan on starting soon.
Moving on from JLA, I also read two books from J.K Rowling. I have completed my reread of Harry Potter, ending with of course Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. As always I loved this book, and I enjoy reading and rereading and rereading this series so much. So well written and magical, and perfect. I also finally read the newest addition to Harry Potter, the play Harry Potter and the cursed child. It was a solid addition to the Harry Potter universe, obviously different since it is written as a screenplay and not a novel. We follow Harry who is an adult now with three children, and we also follow his youngest son Albus as he deals with school and being the child of the one and only Harry Potter, the chosen one, the one who killed Lord Voldemort. This story is as exciting as you expect Harry Potter to be. I throughly enjoyed reading both books in January and I'm ready to read fantastic beasts... and then restart the series again.
Finally I read two more books by Victoria Aveyard. The second and third books to her Red Queen series, Glass Sword and King's Cage. I enjoyed both these books. Glass sword is a bit long and less action packed then king's cage but both are very good and well written. I especially enjoyed King's Cage. Aveyard is amazing at writing action scenes. I don't get lost or confused with the battles, and I find that seems to be a problem some authors have (even some of my favourite ones). I'm very excited to read War Storm next to see how she ends off this series, to see what fate lays before Mare, Cal, and Maven.
That's my list of books I've read in January! I'm hoping to keep up with my reading in February and have another long list for you. Leave me a message in the comments of books you've read and if you have any recommendations for February.
